053] Global Mapper - Comparing Terrain Changes: Path Profile

Today, we will learn how to check how the terrain has changed using two DEM (Digital Elevation Model) datasets and the "Path Profile" tool.

"Before we begin, if you missed the previous session, check it out here:"

It's simple. You just need to turn on all the DEM layers you want to compare and then run the Path Profile tool. First, prepare two DEM files.

Import both files into Global Mapper.

As you can see, two layers have been registered in the Control Center.

Drawing a Section Line

Now, draw a section line across the area you want to analyze.

I have drawn a black line arbitrarily. With all the imported terrain layers turned on, select the line segment and execute the Path Profile command.

Analyzing the Profile Result

Do you see the legend in the bottom left? All activated terrain layers are displayed. In this case, the blue line represents the 2024 data, and the one with the gradient applied is the 2025 data. The yellow dots indicate the positions of the vertices on the line segment.

If you want to modify the appearance or parameters of the result screen, you can do so through the "Path Profile Settings."

You can adjust various settings here to fit your needs.

That’s all for today!

"In the next session, we'll dive deeper into more advanced features. Stay tuned!"
